Avanti Finance was founded in New Zealand in 1989 by Glenn Hawkins and Stephen Eltringham.
“Avanti” means “go forward” in Italian and reflects the focus Glenn and Stephen had from the beginning: helping people access finance when standard options may not fit.
The business began with auto lending. Our first customer came to us when she urgently needed a car loan — and she’s still with Avanti today. More than three decades later, that relationship is a reminder of the trust we’ve built by helping customers access finance when they need it.
Avanti Finance remains proudly New Zealand-owned and continues to grow as a specialist lender. Today, we provide property, auto, personal and business lending in New Zealand, and auto finance in Australia.
Avanti Finance is governed by a board chaired by Glenn Hawkins. The business is led by Group Chief Executive Fred Ohlsson, supported by an experienced executive management team.
Over time, Avanti Finance has grown to include Branded Financial Services, Bexhill Funding Group and Motorcentral Technologies, extending the business across specialist lending, insurance premium funding and innovative technology solutions for vehicle dealerships.
As a member of the Financial Services Federation, we’re committed to responsible lending, meeting our regulatory obligations and doing right by our customers.
